PANHANDLER
RAKES IN DONATIONS
ST.
PETERSBURG, FLORIDA - Area homeless panhandler Jerry Klewlis is always a familiar
site at the corner of 19 & 19 in St. Pete, Florida. This Labor Day weekend Jerry
was there as any other weekend. His “Will Work for Food” sign was replaced with
a “Help Jerry’s Kids” sign. He also held one large boot. Unsuspecting motorist
thinking they were donating to Jerry Lewis’ kids were in fact donating to Jerry Klewlis’ kids. ”I’m helping my kids when I don’t axe them for money” Jerry said
as he relaxed on a bus stop bench clutching a bottle of mad dog 20/20 and
reminisced about his morning.” ”I figured I wouldn’t have to collect cans this
week until the damn firemen showed up and chased me off my own damn corner” said
Jerry. With a few grunts and snorts Jerry passed out until Police Chief Ben
Dunkin arrived. Poking his knight stick into Jerry’s chest, Ben Dunkin told him
to move on. Jerry fumbled as he got up, mumbled obscenities, and stumbled toward
an IHOP trash dumpster. Ben Dunkin noticed the cardboard sign and promptly
arrested Jerry for Panhandling Under False Pretenses.
